Coconut Chutney

COCONUT CHUTNEY

Coconut chutney is one of the widely preferred chutney recipe served with idli,dosas, vada's,appam,uttapam  and many more vegan.Mostly South Indian recipes are incomplete without the coconut chutney.This chutney is very simple to prepare and can be made using few ingredients.There are number of variations of this chutney by using mint leaves, coriander leaves,lemon juice and many other. .In this recipe, we will make coconut chutney using roasted chana dal.

This chutney is good for health ,as we know that coconut helps for weight loss and also it is having high nutritional value.Later, I will share the variations made in this coconut chutney.

 COCONUT CHUTNEY RECIPE

INGREDIENTS FOR CHUTNEY:

1 cup grated coconut
1/4 cup roasted chana dal
2 tbsp peanuts
3 green chilies(adjust as spicy needed)
1 tbsp jeera/ cumin
1/2 tbsp salt(as needed)
1 tbsp curd(optional)
water(as needed)


INGREDIENTS FOR TEMPERING  THE CHUTNEY:

1 tbsp oil
1/4 tbsp udad dal
1/4 tbsp mustard seeds / rai
1/2 tbsp asafoetida/ hing
1 red chili
2-3 curry leaves / kadi patta

HOW TO MAKE THE CHUTNEY?


1. Add grated coconut,roasted chana dal, peanuts,green chilies, jeera/cumin,salt in a grinding jar.
2. Now blend all the ingredients without adding water.This will make a smooth paste of chutney
3. Add curd if want. Then add water to make a smooth paste.
4. Place the chutney into the bowl.

HOW TO DO TEMPERING?

1.Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan ,add 1/4 tbsp udad dal and 1/4 tbsp mustard seeds/rai
2.When dal changes to golden brown add 2-3 curry leaves,1 red chili  broken.
3. Now add hing and pour this onto the bowl of chutney.
4.Now mix it well.
5.Coconut chutney is ready to eat with south indian dishes  and other vegan.


NOTES:

1. The use of curd in the chutney makes it tastes more delicious like a restaurant.
2. Sesame seeds can also be used instead of udad dal for the tempering.
